A Scotsman abruptly breaks off his engagement to pretty Kitty and moves to his uncle's castle in the Scottish highlands. Kitty and her aunt follow Gerald a few weeks later, and discover he has suddenly aged. Some mysterious things happen in a maze made from the hedges adjoining the castle.
This was the final film for director/production designer William Cameron Menzies and the new 3D restoration looks great. Menzies design style is a perfect fit for 3D and really shows off the impressively long sets. The story isn’t anything amazing, but Menzies creates a mysterious atmosphere all the way up until the ending that’s not satisfying yet simultaneously hilarious. If you’re going to watch this don’t look at anything about it because this ending deserves to be seen first without any hints as to what happens. It’s really a horror film and I’d move it to the appropriate subsection, but I don’t want to give any clues as to what this is so I’ll put it in thriller.
Naomi New Year: I know Chris, John, and I are still here and Car can't be too too far away since his last post wasn't that long ago, but Greg is on hiatus at the moment because he is busy with school and personal life.
